The Tongue

What a little thing a tongue is,
Yet what damage it can do,
By whispering little secrets,
And words that are untrue.

For words that once are spoken,
Especially when unkind,
Are never quite forgotten,
They linger in the mind.

So always keep your tongue on guard
And watch what words you choose.
Then there will never pass your lips
The kind you should not use.
